Your Child's Visit
Our goal is to ensure that you and your child have a positive dental care experience during each visit. Please do not be anxious if your child is nervous because we are specially trained to work with children under all circumstances. Our aim is to create a safe and comfortable environment where we will strive to develop a special bond with your child.
Before the first visit
Be positive in talking with your child about his or her first experience with the dentist. Keep a pleasant and enthusiastic attitude while you explain that the dentist will count his or her teeth. You can comfort your child that the dentist is a friend who will take good care of him or her (and we certainly will!). Please do NOT mention pain or the absence thereof, as the thought of pain may not have occurred to him or her. Avoid using unpleasant terms like needle, drill, shot, pull, or any other word suggesting discomfort. The more positive you are about the visit, the better the experience will be for you and your child.
The first visit
Our objective is to create a “dental home” for your child. For the first visit, we welcome you to remain with your child. We will introduce him or her to our dental team and invite them to explore the facility. The dentist will then examine their head and neck, after which he will evaluate the health of your child’s teeth, gums, and bite. The dentist will only take dental radiographs if he finds it necessary. At the end, you will learn about preventing diseases, brushing teeth, and flossing. At this time, the dentist will also go over any dental issues with you.
Follow-up visits
At follow-up appointments, we invite children three years of age and older to come to the examining room by themselves. This encourages the child to develop independence and trust, and allows us to concentrate solely on your child. We understand that, in some cases, it is better for the parent to accompany the child, and in these cases we will ask you to stay. Also, if staying with your child is important to you, please let us know. Our goal is to make this appointment a success.
